New Projects

Along with most people involved with child welfare issues in Australia, the maltreatment of children and parents in detention centres has been a major pre-occupation of our work in the last two years.

All of our seminar revenue since early 2002 has been directed to refugee charities including ..

  • Rural Australians for Refugees

  • Sanctuary Refugee Support Group

  • Chilout Children out of Detention

  • Oxfam/Community Aid Abroad

and many others.

Currently a large project has been initiated by Steve and Rev. Rod Horsfield assisted by Beth Gibbings and Beth Horsfield. The SievX National Memorial Project is a nationwide young people's art collaboration, inviting secondary school art classes to submit designs for a national memorial to the 353 children, women and men who drowned in the refugee boat disaster of the same name, in October 2001.

The aim is to design and build a memorial site on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin in Canberra, and by doing this to develop Australia's conscience and awareness of the needs of people fleeing terror beyond our shores.

More information is available on www.sievxmemorial.com.

If you are unaware of the SievX tragedy and its story, www.sievx.com is an excellent archival website of all media material and parliamentary proceedings relating to the event.
